I had to have a lie down after watching the frantic bidding for a piece of my artwork on Ebay. I could NOT believe it.  Following a visit to Tom Gauld's studio, I have been taking his advice to heart. This was the advice:
I made the picture above to remind me to not think too much and to just make art! Having said this I do like sitting around thinking and I had an idea ages ago about an art piece based on my surname. In Italian Pulcino means ‘chick’, this is really funny because if you Google my full name you’ll find pictures of fluffy chicks. I am not a chick. I do like baby animals though and I thought it would be excellent to make a ‘rock chick’ that is, a chick painted on a rock. Like a pet rock but it’s a pet rock chick. I set to work painting my idea:
And here is the final result! I painted the chick and my full name. I actually made three in the end as I got into the flow of it.
I thought it would be fun to try and sell this pet rock chick, I didn’t think anyone would actually want to buy it! I just wanted to say that I had a chick for sale going cheap (cheap like cheep). I don’t mind puns as long as they are not about bunnies. I made a listing on Ebay with a starting bid at £1.
It was an interesting process using Ebay and thinking about copy to sell my art. The more I wrote, the more amazing I realised that my art piece actually was. All three of them areone of a kind because they have been painted with my own paws. None of it was made by computer or robots or AI and that’s a rare thing these days. Anyway, unbelievably there was a bit of a bidding war on my art piece and the final bid came in at £19 (!). That is so much more than what I could have hoped for. The buyer hasn’t paid yet so technically it‘s still unsold the small fortune is theoretical. I couldn’t help but get ahead of myself and imagine the possibilities!
If I sold just two of those I could upgrade my accommodation:
I only need to sell two pet rocks to buy one of these but I think I would prefer to live somewhere with a lot more space. I looked up the cheapest studio flat near here. This is what my search came up with:
It's a bit out of my remit, I would need to sell 10,263 pet rock chicks to buy a studio flat like this. I'm not sure that that this is a viable option.
Some good news though on the job front, my dad has managed to get me a day of work experience in a few weeks time so that gets me off the hook for a bit with the job hunting. In the meantime I will continue to Just Make Art!
Thank you and bye for now,
Fluffy Pulcino
